Dorothy Walker Sirmans, 77, of Irwin County, died Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Coffee Regional Medical Center in Douglas.
Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Fletcher Cemetery in Berrien County with Elder Travis Fussell officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Friday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Sirmans was born April 5, 1936, in Irwin County, to the late Talmadge & Edna Griffin Walker. Along with her husband, she was former co-owner/operator of Little Pantry in Fitzgerald. She also worked as a clerk for Reid’s Drug Store in Ocilla. Mrs. Sirmans and her sister, Betty Hendley, operated a nursery and helped to rear many children in Irwin County. She also did babysitting in her home. She was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church and will be remembered as a loving person who enjoyed taking care of others.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years: Danny Sirmans of Ocilla; two sons: John & Debbie Sirmans of Ocilla and James Sirmans of Collins; daughter-in-law: Redelia Fussell Sirmans of Irwin County; three grandchildren: Adrienne Escobar of Ocilla, Andrew Sirmans of Hortense, and Brandon Sirmans of Fitzgerald; two great-grandchildren: Rhiana Lynn Escobar and Lane Escobar, both of Ocilla; two sisters: Betty & Loren Hendley of Irwin County and Marilyn & Richard Seagroves of Midway; two brothers: Harold & Viviette Walker of Ocilla and J.W. & Jean Walker of Warner Robins as well as nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son: Christopher L. Sirmans; two brothers: Jack Walker & Jimmy Walker and a sister: Helen Harris.
