Michelle Snyder
Michelle Snyder passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, surrounded by family, at CMH, on Monday, March 10, 2014.
Michelle was born on September 20, 1959 in the Port Hueneme Naval Hospital. She was the first child born to Bill and Rose Weisshaar of Ventura, and was also the first granddaughter of Juan and Irene Macias - life long residents of Ventura. Michelle too spent her entire life in this little city by the pier.
Growing up in Ventura, Michelle attended Holy Cross School and graduated from St. Bonaventure High School, as part of the class of 1977. During her years in school, Michelle was a dedicated candy striper. She was also an avid participant in all things dedicated to art, music, and drama. She was active in Camp Fire Girls earning their highest honor the Wo-He-Lo (Work-Health-Love) Medallion.
Following high school, Michelle attended Ventura College in pursuit of a degree in Early Childhood Education.
As an adult, Michelle was involved for many years, with her children, in the Music Ministry at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Ventura. In addition, she spent many years teaching Sunday School to the children of the parish. She was extensively involved in raising generations of young girls to be confident and successful through many years of Girl Scouts, and was very involved in Relay for Life as she saw her own mother battle with breast cancer. She was an exceptional seamstress, and was the family’s go-to for extravagant Halloween costumes.
Michelle loved working with children. She taught at Little Tots Pre-School in Port Hueneme and later began working in the Ventura Unified School District when her children started school there. She worked as a Health Technician for the school district for a number of years.
Michelle is preceded in death by her grandparents, Juan and Irene Macias, and her brother-in-law, Scott Matthews. She is survived by her children Jonathan, Kristina, and Jayson Snyder, her parents, Bill and Rose Weisshaar, her siblings, Debbie (Scott) Lawry, Fred (Evelyn) Weisshaar, Kathy Weisshaar-Matthews, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Michelle was a daughter, a sister, a friend, and an auntie. But above all else, she was a loving mother to her three children whom carry her legacy today. She is greatly missed.
Please join us in ushering “Shell”, our little Eyeore, into the kingdom of Heaven!!
