Robert L. “Pee Wee” Carey, 74, of Woonsocket died peacefully Wednesday morning at home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Yvonne R. (Boucher) Carey. They were married on August 10, 1964.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Nelson and Simone (Lamothe) Carey. He was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Carey was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was proud of his service to his country and lived his life according to the Marine Corps motto “Semper Fi”.
Mr. Carey was employed at Bechtel Corp. as a carpenters foreman and had previously worked at a number of area firms as a member of the Carpenters Union Local 94.
Pee Wee was an active member of the Italian Workingmen’s Club, the Woonsocket B.P.O.E. Lodge # 850, and the Cercle Laurier. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid saltwater and freshwater fisherman.
Pee Wee will be remembered as an outgoing personable man who loved to joke around. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife of 49 years he is survived by a son Kenneth N. Carey, and his wife Yvonne, of Fall River, a daughter Elaine Carey-Ellsworth, and her husband David, of Huntington Beach, CA, four grandchildren Mikayla, Eric, Cameron and Skylar and step-granddaughter Jessica Holyoke. He was the brother of Nelson Carey of Blackstone and Claire Savoie of North Carolina. He is also survived by nephews Michael Carey and Gary and Guy Savoie.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10:00 am in All Saints Church, Rathubn St. Woonsocket. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society 931 Jefferson Blvd., Suite 3004, Warwick, RI. 02886.
