Obituary

Eugene Leo McGowan, 92 of Ventura Passed away on Thursday March 6, 2014.

Mr. McGowan was born October 3, 1921 in the Bronx, New York and was a Ventura resident for the past 32 years coming from New Jersey.

He worked in helicopter operations for 30 years for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Eugene was decorated World War II Air Corp Veteran. He flew in 52 Missions and the Air Corp had a plane "MAC: named after him.
He was an avid reader, a good story teller, and was an active member and eucharistic minister at the San Buenaventura Mission, a volunteer for Catholic Charities Food Share Program and an overnight Shelter Volunteer.
Eugene was a baseball fan and when he was younger he played on the Port Authority Team. He loved to watch his LA Dodgers and would often joke that he came to Los Angeles because the Brooklyn Dodgers moved here.
He os survived by his beloved daughters Peggy Halevi and her husband Uri Halevi of Ventura, Eileen McGowan of Short Hills, New Jersey, and Louise Montorio of Tennessee; sister Patricia Wargo of New Jersey; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife the late Louise McGowan, September 10, 2010, sons Gene, Hugh, and Patrick McGowan and his brother the late Jack McGowan.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 2PM Tuesday March 11, 2014 in Santa Clara Cemetery, Oxnard. Mr. McGowan was entrusted to the care of the Only Family Owned Funeral Home in the City of Ventura, JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME 757 E. Main Street Ventura where friends may visit Monday March 10, 2014 from 4 to 6:30pm.
