Stephen H. Smith, 74, of Abington, passed away surrounded by his loving family on March 3rd at his home. He was the beloved husband of Diane (Phillips) Smith.
Steve was born in Halethorpe, MD, son of the late Cyrus and Dorothy (Dunn) Smith, he grew up in Braintree and was a 1958 graduate of Braintree High School and he also attended Vesper George School of Art.
He served his country in the United States Marine Corp as a Corporal, during the Vietnam War.
Steve has been an Abington resident for many years, where he was an Eagle Scout and Scout Master, Troop 40 Abington and was active in Abington Youth Baseball for many years.
He was a Civil War re-enactor, an avid reader and a historian. Steve was passionate about his gardening. His gardens were greatly admired by everyone.
Steve retired as a graphic designer from Prudential Insurance Company after 28 years.
In addition to his wife Diane he is survived by his sons Scott P. Smith of Taunton and his wife Suzanne, Stephen H. Smith, Jr. of Abington, his brother Cyrus C. Smith and his wife Ruth of NJ, his grandchildren Benjamin and Katlyn Smith of Hanson and Mikayla Mello of Taunton; also many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Richard A., Michael D. and David Smith.
His funeral Services will be held on Monday March 10th at 9:45 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte. 58 @ the Rotary Circle) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 AM in the St. Bridget Church, Abington. Burial will follow in the St. Patrick Cemetery, Rockland. His visitation will be held on March 9th from 4:00-8:00 PM.
