Alice V. (Lightbody) Corrao, 83, died peacefully surrounded by loving family on Sunday March 2nd, 2014. She was the devoted wife of the late Anthony “Tony” Corrao, Sr.
Alice was born on September 27th 1930, she raised in Hamilton by her mother, the late Etta (Hill) Lightbody. She was a graduate of Hamilton High School class of 1949.
Alice worked as a nurse at the North Shore Babies Hospital in Salem. Later in life, after raising four children, she continued her calling by working as a Home Health Aide.
Alice devoted her time to family and community activities as a Girl Scout leader, a softball coach and by utilizing her talents as a cake decorator for friends and relatives. Alice was a huge sports enthusiast, whether watching the Red Sox or cheering on her grandchildren.
Alice married the love of her life, the late Tony Corrao, Sr., and moved to Gloucester in 1958. They spent 54 wonderful years together - winters with many wonderful friends in Arizona and summers with wonderful friends in Gloucester. They enjoyed square dancing, many years camping with the family, and relaxing on Wingaersheek Beach.
Alice is survived by her four children, Anthony Corrao, Jr. and his wife Jo-Anne (Sweet), and their children Jonathan Sweet and his wife Jennifer and Jeremy Sweet and his wife Nikki; Marietta and her husband Bruce Kamin and their children Evan, and his wife Layanne, and Brendan; Alison and her husband John Aiello, and their children Alycia and Arica; Joanne and her husband Brendhan Zubricki and their children Joshua, Autumn, Reilly, and Lexi.
She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Madison and Julianne Sweet, several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, several nieces, nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews, God-children, loving friends at Colonial Gardens, and special friends Barbara Flattery, Donna Ingersoll, Elenor Bertolino and Claire Richards.
Alice was predeceased by her brother, Oscar Lightbody, and wife Marion, sister, Mary Upton and husband Arthur, and her nephews, Dick and Bob Upton.
Alice will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her motherly love guided and nurtured us. We have lost a wonderful friend, mother, Grandma and Aunt.
All are welcome to attend a memorial service that will be held on Saturday, March 8th at 4:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Essex, 39 Main Street, Essex. Parking is available on Route 22 behind the police station. At Alice’s request, there will be no visiting hours.
