Obituary

Andrew J. Masotta, a lifelong Woburn resident, died peacefully early Saturday, March 1st, after a short period of declining health. Andrew was the beloved husband of Mary T. (Procopio) Masotta of Woburn. Born in Woburn He was one of 10 children of the late Catino and Phillipa (Madilena) Masotta. Andrew is also survived by his four children, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Andrew was a retired employee of Monsanto Chemical Company in Everett, spending 46 years with the company. He started out as a chemical operator, quickly working his way up to shift supervisor. He also worked as a boiler room operator, pipe fitter and night supervisor. Andrew was a landlord spending most of his summers with his family, managing properties in Salisbury and Hampton Beaches. He was always working, even when he retired. He and his wife Mary were married for 67 years, living in the house that Andrew built for them when they began their family.

Andrew loved telling stories. He talked about his parents and how they had come to America from Enna, Sicily for their honeymoon and loved it so much, they never left. He spoke of his many vacations with his wife, Mary, including trips to Italy, Hawaii and Florida, among many others. He spoke of his days of buying and managing property and all of his years working for Monsanto. He was a hard worker, quitting school in the 8th grade to help support his family through the depression. He never complained and loved being able to work, even if it was putting around in the yard at 95 years old.

Andrew wasn’t always so serious. He loved playing pranks. Andrew was known for making funny noises and then acting like it wasn’t him. He was the one at family parties who would tap people from behind and walk. This was especially popular with his eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who know him as “Grampy”.

Andrew is survived by his children, Andrew Masotta and wife Linda of Tewksbury, James Masotta and Marcy Yameen of Methuen, Richard Masotta and wife Natalie of Beverly and Janet Masotta-Quinn and husband Pat Quinn of Woburn. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jessica Masotta, Jena Masotta, Gina Masotta, Nicholas Masotta and wife Jenny, Krista Carreau, Kelley Smith and husband Josh, Lori O’Doherty, and Dani Turner. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Caiden Carreau, Gavin and Lily Smith and Uri O’Doherty.

He is also survived by his siblings Susanne Giglio and husband Anthony, Angelo Masotta and his wife Eleanor, Grace Castronova and her late husband Joe, the late Philip Masotta and wife Margarette. He is the brother the late John Masotta and wife Lucy, Stella Pesaturo and husband Dick, Mary Ferullo and husband Dominic, Salvatore Masotta and wife Pauline, Joseph Masotta and wife Mary.

Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Thursday, March 6th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Church, 280 Main St. Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the McLaughlin – Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Wednesday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Calavry Cemetery, Woburn.
