Mathilda “Tillie” (Correia) Souza, age 81, of Fall River passed away February 21, 2014 with her loving family around her after a long bout with Bladder Cancer. She was the widow of Gabriel Souza Sr. to whom she had been married for 60 years and daughter of the late Joseph Almeida Correia and Maria (Pimental) Correia. She was a retired sewing machine operator having worked at Louis Hand Co., Essex Mfg. and Shelbourne Shirt Co. She had been Secretary for the Board of the State Pier, a member of the A.C. & T.W. Local 177, the Holy Ghost Society, and the Holy Rosary Sodality of St. Michael Church. Mathilda loved bingo, casinos and going on trips.
Tillie was the mother of Gabriel Souza Jr. of Fall River, the late Helen Souza and Thomas J. Souza, wife Marlene P. (Fazio) Souza. She was the sister of Antone A. Correia of NC, Joseph A. Correia, Madeline Coutroubis and Irene Orlando of Fall River and the late Edmund A., Arthur A., Alban A., Louis A. and Inez Correia, Theresa Barboza and Mary Souza. She was the grandmother of Angela Marie and Adam Michael Souza. She also leaves many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Her funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1521 N. Main St., Fall River on THURSDAY at 10:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael Church, Essex St. at 11:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery.
