Dorothy Alice (Lamont) Duhaime of Natick, died Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the Oak Knoll Healthcare Center in Framingham, following a brief but courageous struggle with cancer.
She was the beloved wife of the late Roland R Duhaime. They shared a loving 35 years together.
Dorothy was born at home on Bacon Street, Natick in 1925. She was the daughter of the late James H Lamont and Lillian (Thomas) Lamont.
Called “Dolly” in her youth, Dorothy was raised in Natick and Wellesley, a child of the great depression and considered one of the last from the “Greatest Generation”. She attended the Natick School system but like many from that time she had to quit early and join the work force in order to help her family. A young mother during World War II, she would recall vivid memories of the attack on Pearl Harbor and the fears she shared with her mother of having three brothers fighting on the front lines.
She was especially proud of her Scottish “Clan Lamont” heritage and would reminisce fondly the stories about her father coming from Scotland in the 1800’s and he catching the eye of a beautiful young Cambridge girl named Lillian.
A top waitress for most of her professional life and a home healthcare worker in later years, Dorothy had many stories and memories from her waitress days but her proudest time was working with her sister Lillian Roberge at Deke’s Diner at Jackson’s Store Sherborn, Massachusetts during the 1960’s.
An avid Bingo player, Dorothy maintained a driver’s license and her own car until the end and would often be the designated Bingo driver for her friends and family. Dorothy had many friends and would spend time at the Natick Senior Center or socially at Coolidge Gardens, her place of residence. Dorothy will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and her kind, loving attention as a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.
Lovingly referred to as “Ma”, “Mommy”, “Gramma” , “Granks” and “Mammy”, she leaves behind many loving grandchildren, nieces and nephews along with her daughter, Marjorie Wilson and her husband William Wilson of Natick, son David Hammond and his wife Pamela Hammond of North Billerica and her step children Amy Gallegos of Texas. Robert Duhaime of Rhode Island, Diane Duhaime of Rhode Island, Donna Duhaime of Melbourne, Florida and former husband John Jackson
She was the mother of the late Frederick and James Hammond and grandmother of the late William Wayne Wilson and former wife of the late Fred I. Hammond and widow of James A. Chaves. Dorothy was the last surviving child of 11 brothers and sisters; Wallace Lamont, Arthur Lamont, John Lamont, Marjorie Tassinari, James Lamont, Warren Lamont, Lillian Holmes, Leona Armenio, Thomas Lamont, Robert Lamont and David Lamont
