Obituary

GLOUCESTER – Jennie E. Sweet, 93, formerly of Willow Street, died Thursday afternoon, February 20, 2014, at the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Gloucester on November 12, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Ralph G. and Jennie (Frazier) Sweet. She was a lifelong resident and had attended Gloucester public schools.
In her early years, Jennie was employed as a fish cutter for General Seafoods and later at Slug Ryan’s with her sister, Grace and her best friend, DeeDee Lewis.
She took great pleasure in cooking for everyone, especially meshi and Lebanese spaghetti and meatballs. In the fall, she enjoyed talking rides to New Hampshire to see the foliage. However, her favorite time of year was Christmastime. Watching the children open their presents brought her great joy. She was also an avid knitter and made more sweaters and hats than you could even count for family and friends.
Jennie devoted her life to her family and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her nephew, Lenny Kilman, whom she raised as her son, and his wife, Maryann; their children, Cristie Kilman, Corey Kilman, and Kelly LoCoco and her children, Lexie and Luke LoCoco, who lit up her world; her sister, Blanche Kilman; sisters-in-law, Nina (Orlando) Sweet, Dorothy “Dolly” (Waddleton) Sweet and Gail Sweet Gillette, as well as many nieces and nephews including, Scott Kilman, Tracey Nelson, Coralee Kilman, April Kilman and Maryjane Aiello. She also leaves behind special friends, Laura Murray and Marie Whynott; and dear neighbors, Cathy Wallius and Linda Stanley. She was also predeceased by three sisters, Grace Sweet, Cora Chadwick and Mary Peavey; seven brothers, Ralph G., Jr., John M., William R., Elwood, Homer, Elias and Forrest “Bud” Sweet; and her best friend, Aggie Selig.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday morning in the Trinity Congregational Church at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday evening in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 6 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Seacoast Atlantic Shore Unit, 292 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
