Gene Sealey of Mystic died peacefully at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. He was 84 years old and originally from Wendell, N.C. He is survived by his wife, Lorna Sealey, also of Mystic.
Mr. Sealey was retired from the U.S. Navy and Underwater Systems Center. He received multiple awards in service to his country. He was also an active member of the Old Mystic United Methodist Church of Old Mystic, CT, including playing on and managing the church softball team.
Mr. Sealey was predeceased by a brother, Grover Sealey of Groton, as well as 8 other brothers and sisters, all of Virginia and North Carolina.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son Gene Jr., a daughter Susan Welsh and her husband James Welsh, all of Mystic. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sarah Clark, Patrick Welsh, Kevin Welsh, and Timothy Welsh, as well as great-granddaughter Elianna Welsh. He also leaves many nieces and nephews who will miss him greatly.
His family will greet relatives and friends on Monday, February 24, 2014 from 2 to 3pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic, immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 3pm. Burial in Elm Grove Cemetery will be private for the family.
