Alford T. Smith passed away September 20, 2004 at the Kindred Hospital in Fort Worth, TX.
Visitation will be held at Seven Oaks Funeral Home on Wednesday September 22, 2004 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be Thursday at Antioch Baptist Church in Calhoun County, MS, with Reverend Jim Allen officiating. The committal service will be held in Antioch Cemetery.
He is survived by: his first wife, Marie Stanley McCullough; one daughter, Norma Marie Smith Williams of Ft. Worth, TX; four sons, Alford Jimmy Smith of Morton, MS, Larry Gene Smith of Florida, Bobby Ray Smith of LaVergne, TN, and James Earl Smith of Jackson, MS; four sisters, Nora S. Barker of Oklahoma City, OK, Doris Williams of Kopprel, TX, Margaret Hazel Smith of Avon Lakes, OH, and Katie Mae Tutor of Johnson City, TN; three brothers, John Verrell Smith of Tomball, TX, David G. Smith of Houston, TX,and Howard Smith of Okalahoma City, OK; 14 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his second wife Helen Jean Smith.
Mr. Smith was a retired factory worker from Holly Carburator in Water Valley, MS. He served in the United Sates Army during World War II. He received the Congressional Medal of Honor, the Silver Star, and the Purple Heart from his years in service to his country.
