Dorothy B. (Bennett) Crowell, 94, of Salem, NH died peacefully Friday, January 31st at her home, where she had been cared for by her family and friends.
Dorothy was born and educated in Nebraska, the daughter of the late Irene (Kessler) and William Morris Bennett. She went to Grinnell College in Iowa and the Boston Chamberlain College for Women in Boston, MA. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Reading, the Reading Craftsman Society, the Salem Garden Club and the Nature’s Conservatory. Dorothy loved all crafting and was very talented. She designed and made silver jewelry, she did Towle painting, crewel, needlepoint and embroidery, rug hooking and rug braiding, counted cross stitch, leather tooling and chair caning. She made her own cards with block printing. Dorothy enjoyed cooking and baking and the company of her dear cat, Pebbles. Always a lady, she had a love of the outdoors, compassion for others and the ability to find joy in the simple pleasures of everyday living.
She was predeceased by her husband William Crowell.

Jean Tormey of Salem, NH and Richard Crowell of Minneapolis, MN; her sister, Virginia (Bennett) Edwards of Sturgeon Bay, WI; her 4 grandchildren, Douglas Thompson of Raleigh, NC, Brian Tormey of Salem, J.D. Tormey of Kingston, NH and Hilary Crowell of Minneapolis, MN, 4 great grandchildren, Evan and Preston Thompson and Ty and Jacquelyn Tormey and several nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held at a later date.
