CHICOPEE – Philip J. Bergeron, Sr., 72, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, February 15, 2014. He passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers. He was born in Holyoke on August 17, 1941, a beloved son of the late Philip L. and Eva A. (Manseau) Bergeron. He was raised in the Aldenville section of Chicopee and was a lifelong resident of the city. He served his country in the United States Navy and attained the rank of Seaman. Following his military service, he returned to Chicopee and was employed as a cement finisher and foreman at Pioneer Valley Concrete Service in Chicopee. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Theresa O. (Blanchard) Bergeron. They were married on June 8, 1963 at Saint Patrick Church in South Hadley Falls and were blessed with over 50 years of happiness together. He also leaves his four devoted sons, Philip J. Bergeron, Jr. and his husband, Angelo Rivera, of Eastham, MA, Corey J. Bergeron of Chicopee, Whitey A. Bergeron and his wife, Anne, of Chicopee, and David P. Bergeron and his wife, Amy, of East Springfield; his four cherished grandsons, Nicholas Bergeron, Mason Bergeron, Devin Bergeron and Ethan Bergeron; his three dear brothers, Richard Bergeron and his wife, Linda, Joseph Bergeron and his wife, Sonja, and Lionel Bergeron; his five dear sisters, Alice Carpenter, Lucille Hadley and her husband, Ernest, Jeanne Laizer, Cecile Gregoire and her husband, Steve, and Doris Ryder; his dear sister-in-law, Linda Bergeron; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Bergeron and Blanchard families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear brother, Albert Bergeron. At Philip’s request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral services and memorial donations may be made in his memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
