Obituary

James Monroe Porter, 71, of Chase City, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 15, 2014 after his courageous two year battle with Cancer. He was born on June 3, 1942 in Danville, VA. He is survived by his wife, Linda Beale Porter of Chase City, VA; one daughter, Terri Hollander of Phoenix, AZ; three sons, Daniel Joseph Porter of Perkasie, PA, Philip Michael Williams of Halifax, VA and Mark Williams of Charlotte, NC; one brother Wesley Porter of Columbus, OH; one sister, Elaine Meyers of VA Beach, VA; twelve grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son, James Anthony Porter and his grandson, James Porter. Mr. Porter is a Navy Veteran, the Post Commander of American Legion Post 43, a Deacon at Antioch Baptist Church, and a life-long member of the USS Kitty Hawk Association. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 4 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery with Military Honors by Post 43.
