Obituary

Fall River - Evaristo “Ivy” A. Pacheco, 88, a retired US Navy Chief, passed away on Friday, February 14, 2014. Born in Fall River, a son of the late Antone and Jacintha (Mello) Pacheco. He was a resident of both Fall River and Rehoboth, and was the lifelong companion of the late Evelyn McMahon. Ivy had a lifelong career with the US Navy having served from 1943-1984, he was a veteran of WWII & Korea. He received the American Theatre Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal, Point System as well as many others. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5392, Tiverton and the Ed Couto Chapter of the Naval Enlisted Reserve Association.

Known to many as “Uncle Ivy”, he loved spending time in Rehoboth, giving his animal friends treats, taking on many projects, such as building , splitting wood and pouring concrete, you could always count on him to direct and help. In earlier years, Uncle Ivy made homemade wine and made sure everyone got a bottle. He was a caring person who will be missed by many. Ivy was instrumental in having a monument made and placed on the grave of a WWI soldier that was buried in a small historical cemetery on his nephews land in Rehoboth. He also enjoyed sharing stories of his days in the military.

He leaves his late companion’s son, Louis McMahon and his wife Pam; many nieces & nephews. He was the brother of the late Antone, John, Joseph Pacheco, and Mary Silva, Elsie Lebediker, Balbina Gonsalves and Evelyn Desmarais. He was also the grandfather of the late Sean P. McMahon.

Uncle Ivy’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 9:00 A.M. from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1521 North Main St., Fall River, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in St. Michael Church 189 Essex St., Fall River. Interment with military honors will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 17, 2014 from 3 to 7 pm.
