Eileen F. Merritt, 70

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Eileen F. (Troy) Merritt, age 70, of Mansfield, formerly of Norton and Charlestown passed away surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston.
She was the beloved wife of Robert C. Merritt to whom she was wed on September 11, 1965.
Born in Medford, MA on January 2, 1944, she was a loving daughter of the late James D. and Mary F. (Williams) Troy.
Eileen spent her early childhood living in Medford. Her family later moved to Charlestown and she was very proud of being a Charlestown “Townie”
Throughout her working career, Mrs. Merritt was involved with food management. Before retiring she worked at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro and had previously worked at the Holiday Inn in Taunton and for many years at the former Ann’s Place Restaurant in Norton.
A resident of Mansfield for the past three years, she had previously resided in Norton for over thirty five years.
Eileen was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton. She loved spending time in the Myrtle Beach area of South Carolina and especially cherished being with her family, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her beloved husband of 48 years, she is survived by her devoted children, Robert F. Merritt and his wife Cynthia of Attleboro, Troy W. Merritt and his wife Kelly of Taunton, and Denise E. McGovern and her husband Brian of Mashpee. She was the adoring “nana” of Cameron, Kayla, Tyler, Riley, Shannon, Nolan and Owen. She was the dear sister of Paul Troy of Billerica, MaryEllen Venezia of Hudson, NH and Patricia Kelly of Maynard, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Her Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 18th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary‘s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will be private.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, February 17th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
In lieu of flowers, Eileen‘s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Norton Senior Center, P.O. 552, Norton, MA 02766
