Elder Jerry Barrs, 69, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Monday, February 10, 2014, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Thursday, February 13, 2014, at Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County, with Elder Walt DeLoach, Elder Harold Roberts and Elder Travis Fussell officiating. Interment will follow in the Brushy Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Barrs was born October 5, 1944, in Ocilla, to the late Luther Guyton and Mollie Woods Barrs. He was a 1963 graduate of Ocilla High School and in 1964; he attended Barber school in Macon. He owned and operated Jerry’s Barber Shop in Ocilla for nearly 50 years. He was an Elder in the Primitive Baptist Church having entered the ministry in 1999. He lead Fitzgerald Primitive Baptist Church for 15 years.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years: Joann Barrs of Ocilla; a son and daughter-in-law: Bill & Amanda Barrs of Ocilla; a daughter and son-in-law: Kristie & Jamie Johns of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Justin Johns, Ashley Johns, Abby Barrs and Bristol Barrs; and a sister: Linda & Carroll Harper of Albany. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Ronnie G. Barrs.
