Joyce Reed Swaynos, 69, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, February 10, 2014, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 7 PM, Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Father Nicholas Mansell officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 9PM.
Mrs. Swaynos was born July 22, 1944, in Windber, Pennsylvania, to the late Raymond and Ruth Spangler Reed. She was a graduate of Windber High School. A previous resident of Pennsylvania, she moved to the community in 1981 when her husband started IMC, a predecessor to Fitzgerald RailCar. She received her associate’s degree from South Georgia College in Douglas and was a receptionist at Irwin County Hospital. She enjoyed collecting and was an avid shopper. Mrs. Swaynos was a loving mother and grandmother and was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church in Fitzgerald.
She is survived by a son: Jamie Ray & Janet Swaynos of Fitzgerald; 10 grandchildren: J.J. & Tonya Swaynos, Janicea & Phillip Stinchcomb, Zachary Adam Swaynos, Jimmy & Jessica Wiggins, Chris & Allison Taylor, Jamie Swaynos, Jr., Tristan Phillips, Madison Swaynos, Travis Phillips and Lisa Williams; 10 great-grandchildren; seven sisters: Ruth “Honey” Miller, Elaine Kearns, Denise Berardi, Elizabeth “Chubby” Spinelli, Robin “Byrd” Weyandt, Janet Reed and Janice Maddy and two brothers: Roger Reed and Raymond “Gene” Reed. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: John James Swaynos; and a son: John J. Swaynos, Jr.
