NEWPORT, NH - Doris M. (Dobbins) McMahon, age 88, died peacefully, Monday, February 10, 2014, at her home, surrounded by her loving family, after a long period of declining health. She was the beloved wife for 58 years of the late James Leo McMahon, who died in 2006.
She was born in Newfoundland on May 20, 1925, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Dobbins. Her family moved to South Boston while she was an infant, and she was raised in “Southie.” After marrying Jim, they moved to Tewksbury to raise their family. The McMahon’s were communicants of St. William’s Church while living in Tewksbury. They enjoyed camping trips to Wyman’s Beach, vacationing on their boat at Lake Winnipesaukee, and taking cruises all over the world. In retirement, they moved to Houston, Texas for eighteen years, and Doris returned to New England after Jim died in 2006.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James M. and Janet (Aleksa) F. McMahon of Newport, NH, with whom Doris resided, and John J. and Theresa (Castaldo) M. McMahon of Port Charlotte, FL; eight grandchildren, James M. McMahon Jr. of Dallas, TX, Shaun P. McMahon of White River Junction, VT, Patricia M. Brown and her husband Owen Brown of Washington, Heather “Webb” L. McMahon of Mt. Vernon, NH, Veronica R. Montes of Washington, Michelle D. McMahon, Jack J. McMahon and Thomas J. McMahon all of Port Charlotte, FL; four great grandchildren, Cody, Nolan, Owen, and Charlotte Rose; two sisters, Margaret Aviles of Brockton and Patricia and her husband Robert Struthers of Cape Cod.
She was also mother of the late Michael K. McMahon who died in 1976.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, February 15, in St. William’s Church. Burial followed in Tewksbury Cemetery.
