Obituary

Thomas H. Marks Jr. 84, of Ashton Ct. died Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the RI Veteran’s Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary (Drainville) Marks. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Thomas and Stacia (Sawicki) Marks Sr. Mr. Marks lived in North Smithfield for thirty one years before moving to Burrillville.
He received a BS in Accounting at Hill College, attended the Army Finance School at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, IN, and was a Graduate of the Christian Leadership Program at Our Lady of Peace in Narragansett, RI. He served as a Fiscal Specialist and Auditor in the Army Finance Corps during the Korean War. He retired in 1988 as Co-Owner and General Manager of Major Masonry Co. Inc. He previously worked as Paymaster at General Motors in Framingham, and as Assistant Controller at Dow Chemical in Framingham.
Thomas was a lector and member of the Pastoral Life Committee, the Parish Council, and the Parish Prayer Group at St. John the Evangelist Church in Slatersville. He was a Eucharistic Minister and Minister to the Sick at Our Lady of Good Help Church in Mapleville. He was the President of the Ashton Court Club 2000-2002, and served on the Board of Directors and was finance director of the Maplehill Resident’s Association.
He is survived by his children, James J. Marks of Stow, ME, Robert L. Marks of North Smithfield, and Patricia Conary of Pascoag, a sister Dorothy Trudel of Royal Palm Beach, FL, five grandchildren, Jill Khoury, Catylin Strickland, Robert, Benjamin, and Chelsea Marks , and two great–grandchildren. He was also the father of the late Thomas III, Richard, Michael, and Christopher Marks and grandfather of the late Jesse Conary.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 9:00AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St. Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, Church St. in Slatersville. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the RI Veteran’s Cemetery in Exeter. Visiting hours are Wednesday 4-7 PM.
