James F. Baker 62, of Brockton passed unexpectedly February 7, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center Brockton. Jim was born in and lived in Maine for 15 years before moving to Quincy to live with his brother Richard; where he graduated from the Quincy Vocational Technical HS. He has been a resident of Brockton for many years and was the son of the late Albert Baker and Margaret C (Spofford) Baker.
Jim worked many years ago for the Couch Company in Quincy, the Leading Edge Company in Canton; Foremost printing in Brockton and since 1989 till his passing for the Star printing Company also in Brockton. He was the custodian for St. Ann’s Church, W. Bridgewater from 1981 to 2013 and a devoted and faithful communicant.
James and his wife met square dancing when he was part of the “Cupid Squares”. When in Maine he was a member of the Rifle club; he was known as King Pin while a member of the Power Lines CB club, and an active member of the St. Vincent dePaul Society at St Ann’s Church. He loved all of his Boston sport teams, most of all the Red Sox and Patriots and tried never to miss a game. He especially loved his grandchildren very much, and thought teasing them was his most important job.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Christine A. (Butts) Baker; his children Tina Anthony and her husband Rob of E. Bridgewater, Robin Shultz and her husband James of Maryland, Wendy Wilson and her husband Robert, Heidi Anderson and her husband James, Andrea Fairbairn all of Brockton and David Neubauer and his wife Tammy of Freetown; his siblings Robert Baker of New Hampshire and Sandra Mitchell and her husband Elliott of Maine; his brother in-law Richard W. Butts and his wife Irena of Texas and his many grand and great grandchildren. Jim was also predeceased by his brother Richard Hocking.
Visiting hours in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St (Rte 123) Brockton Wednesday 3-7pm. A funeral procession will form at the funeral home Thursday at 9am for a funeral mass in St. Ann’s Church, W. Bridgewater at 10am. Cremation will follow.
