Obituary

WORCESTER— Gustaf Arent Skoglund was called home on Sunday, October 10, 2004. Gus was born on July 7, 1907, in Varmland, Sweden, came to the United States in 1925, became a naturalized citizen who proudly flew the American flag, and lived most of his life in Worcester, Massachusetts. He was the son of Hanna (Carlson) Skoglund and Anders Gustaf Skoglund. He was predeceased by four sisters, Linnea Grundstrom, Nanny Anstensen, Elsa Lundell, Hanna Erlandson, and a brother, C.R. Morgan Skoglund. He is survived by his wife, Veda (Erikson) Skoglund, two sons, Richard G. Skoglund of Trenton, Michigan, and his wife, Susan; George R. Skoglund of Northborough, Massachusetts, and his wife, Edita, and a grandson, Caleb E. Skoglund of Northborough, Massachusetts.

Gus and Veda met at Salvation Army meetings in Greendale and were married for 74 years. He was a member, trustee, and deacon of the Burncoat Baptist Church, which was formerly the Lincoln Square Baptist Church. He worked for many years as the private chauffeur to H.G. Stoddard. He also later worked in maintenance and as a night watchman at the Worcester Art Museum.

He loved his family and lived his life as a good and honest man.

He will be buried at the All Faiths (New Swedish) Cemetery. Calling hours are from 10 am to 11 am followed by a funeral service 11 am Friday, October 15, 2004 at the Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester, Massachusetts.
