Obituary

FRAMINGHAM: Rose J. “Dot” Burns, age 93, died peacefully at her Framingham home on Friday night, January 31, 2014, surrounded by three generations of family. She was the devoted wife of the late Charles “Gil” Burns for 66 years. Born in Newburyport, raised and educated in Providence, Dot was the daughter of the late Alfred and Pearl (Millman) Greenwood. She and Gil were married in 1940, and made Natick their home for many years prior to settling in Framingham in 1959.
Dot very much enjoyed her home, yard, and beautiful gardens, creating a warm and loving environment to share with four generations of family. She also loved music, nature and the companionship of many dogs over the years. An avid reader, Dot kept up-to-date on all current events and was the family “go-to” person for information ranging from recent Patriots’ scores to world news. After working for several years at Filene’s (Wellesley), Dot was employed as a bookkeeper at Raider Furniture (Natick). In addition, she assisted with her husband’s business, Burns Auto Electric (Natick), doing billing and other administrative tasks.
She is survived by her daughter, Priscilla “Penny” Falkum and husband Robert of Framingham, with whom Dot made her home. She also leaves behind a grandson, Charles “Jeff” Slick and wife Marjorie of TX; a granddaughter, Amanda Fargiano and husband Chris of Hopkinton; and six great-grandchildren: Emilee, Max, Matthew, and Sean Slick, and Benjamin and Timothy Fargiano.
A Memorial Celebration will be held in Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church, 27 Main Street Southborough, on Saturday, February 8th at 3PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. The burial will be private at a later date. Donations may be made in Dot’s memory to Friends of Families in Transition, 98 Meadow Rd, Northboro MA 01532. Friends of FIT provides support for homeless families in temporary hotel shelters in Metrowest Massachusetts. For the guest book and additional information please visit www.everettfuneral.com.
