Schofield, Marguerite (Peg) of West Roxbury and South Boston, age 95 died peacefully February 2nd. Beloved wife of the late Edward J Schofield , loving mother of Ned Schofield and his wife Susan of Newton; Peter Schofield and his wife Janice of South Boston; Paul Schofield of Roslindale; Kevin Schofield of Roslindale; Marguerite Welter and her husband Frank of Walpole; Michael Schofield and his wife Andrea d’Amato of Roslindale. Nana will be sorely missed by her eleven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
She was born into an era of having very little, but gave a lot throughout her life. Peg was an amazing and graceful person, always giving of her moral strength, thirst for knowledge, and kindness to her family, friends and community. She has always been a selfless force in welcoming and caring for every member of her large extended family. Not a birthday or event passed without a visit or a helping hand. She loved to travel, learn, and embrace the good in the world. She was a proud member of the Boston Fair Housing Committee, a cofounder of the Boston Police Wives Union, an active and committed member of the Catholic Interracial Council. Marguerite was a Boston Public School teacher, guiding countless special education students through high school and into life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marguerite's name to the Edelweiss Caregivers Fund, and Habitat for Humanity.
Relatives and friends are invited to share memories of this wonderful woman with the family from 4 to 8 pm at The Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre Street in West Roxbury on Friday February 7th.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Saint Theresa of Avila Church in West Roxbury on Saturday February 8th at 10 am.
