Gerald Beck, 83, of Gaithersburg, MD passed away after a brief illness on January 28, 2014. He was the son of the late Hazel Chace and Oliver Barker Beck. Born in New Bedford, he was a long term resident of South Dartmouth. He had recently retired to Asbury Methodist Village in the Washington, DC area to be closer to his family.
He was the widower of Mary (Garganta) Beck, dedicated to his wife of 32 years who passed in 1986; father of William Beck of Atlanta, GA; Elizabeth Beck of Rockville, MD; and Mary Jane Beck of Olympia, WA. Survivors also include 5 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was a self-employed design/build professional, master cabinetmaker and furniture artisan. He lived a life as a good citizen with a generous spirit. He was a good neighbor and a friend to many. Mr. Beck was an avid reader, sang and played the guitar and had a great love for the arts, gardening and the outdoors.
A memorial service to celebrate the lives of Gerald and Mary Beck will take place at Allen’s Neck Friends Meeting, 739 Horseneck Rd., Dartmouth on February 8, 2014 at 11:00 A.M., brunch to follow in the adjoining social room. All are welcome.
