Elwanda Lee Schell, 91, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, January 30, 2014, at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Saturday, February 1, 2014, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Elder Philip Smith and the Rev. Dr. Mike Ruffin officiating. The eulogy will be given by Lucy Schell and a special reading by Charlotte Cobb. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Schell was born December 16, 1922, in Brantley County, Georgia, to the late Virgil V. and Cora Aultman Lee. She graduated from Wacona High School in Waycross, Georgia and moved to the community in 1946. She was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Schell was a member of First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald and was active in the Phoebean Sunday school class, the WMU, and was the former outreach leader for her class. She had recently attended Union Primitive Baptist Church with family. She was also a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Billy & Sara Schell of Fitzgerald, Charlotte & Emory Cobb of Fitzgerald, and David & Lucy Schell of Fitzgerald; nine grandchildren and their spouses: Lori & Hugh Taylor, Beth & Dean Alexander, David, Jr. & Dana Schell, John Allen & Tonya Schell, Brooke & Shawn Lovin, Brian & Christy Cobb, Amy & Morgan Kemp, Anna Schell and Will Schell; 11 great-grandchildren: Malcolm & Tanner Free, Ashley & Zach Taylor, Caleb & Christian Alexander, Summer & Autumn Lovin, Lexie Cobb and Allie & Ian Kemp; one brother: Lamar Lee of Georgetown, Texas and a sister: Virginia Braddock of Waycross. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: W.L. Schell, Sr.; a brother: Willard Lee and a sister: Dorothy Castile.
