Mary Lou Powers Stein, proud resident of Canton, passed away peacefully on January 27 at the age of 74 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Brockton and raised in Canton, Mary Lou attended the St. John the Evangelist School and graduated from Canton High School. She worked for the Town of Canton as the Recreation Department secretary for over 30 years before retiring from that position in 2009. Mary Lou was a devout Red Sox fan and Catholic with a strong faith in God and an unwavering love for Jesus. She spent many years as a member of the prayer and rosary groups and as a Eucharistic Minister for St. Gerard Majella church in Canton. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club and former member of the Canton Lion’s Club, sacrificing countless hours of her time helping others. A loving daughter of the late Hugh and Anna McGowan and faithful wife of the late Edward “Butch” Powers and the late Richard “Dick” Stein, Mary Lou is survived by her devoted sister June (McGowan) Dailey of Stoughton, brother-in-law Edward “Buddy” Dailey of Stoughton, sister-in-law Patricia (Powers) Perkins of San Jose, son Michael and daughter-in-law Heather Powers of Hyde Park, NY, grandchildren Kellen and Declan Powers for whom there are no words that can express how much they love and will miss their Nana Lou, stepsons Richard Stein Jr of Wrentham and Robert Stein of Middleboro, step-grandchildren Krystale Stein and Robert Stein Jr, nephew Timothy Dailey and his wife Eileen of Canton, nieces Kerry Dailey and Erin (Dailey) and her husband Matthew Regan of Canton, numerous other cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends and many strangers who were simply touched by her kindness. Funeral mass at St. Gerard Majella Church Canton Saturday morning at 10. Burial Canton Corner Cemetery.
