Obituary

George A. Bailey 82, C.I.A. agent and Navy Veteran died on Wednesday October 13th at his home in Mashpee. Born in Medford raised in Weymouth and a summer resident of Chappaquiddick, Mr. Bailey attended Weymouth High School where he was Captain of the Varsity basketball team. He enlisted in the Navy where he was an aviation mechanic stationed in Hawaii and Medway Island. He later attended Harvard University, Shenandoah University and Bridgewater State College. After graduating, Mr. Bailey was recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency where he was employed as a field operative agent and did various tours of duty in South Africa, Athens Greece, Cairo Egypt, Mexico and Cuba during Bay of Pigs. His civilian career included High School teacher and coach and a career with Raytheon Missile Systems where he worked on the Patriot Missile Program as an engineer. Mr. Bailey was a resident of Needham for 30 years prior to moving to Mashpee. After retiring in 1987 he took up golf and won the Men’s Seniors Division in Needham. He moved to Mashpee in 1999 to be with his children and grandchildren and assisted the Mashpee Police on their Triad Program. Mr. Bailey was the beloved husband of the late Ellen (Keefe) Bailey, He is survived by his four children; Keefe Bailey of Sherborn, Shauna Weeks, Georgia Bailey both of Mashpee and Rosemary Littlefield of Hingham. He leaves his two sisters, Alice Franchuck of Baton Rouge LA and Grace Sanson of Roslyn PA and his seven grandchildren. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at the First Baptist Church 858 Great Plain Ave Needham on Monday October 18th at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Cape Cod P.O. Box 895 Mashpee Ma 02649.
