Obituary

Ralph W. St. Germain (Deputy Chief WFD Ret.), 80, of Woonsocket died Sunday morning at home. He was the loving husband of Constance L. (Dubois) St. Germain. They were married on May 1, 1954.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Wilfred and Harriet (Murat) St. Germain. He was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. St. Germain served in the United States Naval Reserve.
Following his military service he was employed at Whittins Machine Shop and at Taft-Pierce Manufacturing Corporation.
Mr. St. Germain was appointed to the Woonsocket Fire Department in December of 1963 and served with the Department for 30 years until retiring as Deputy Chief in 1993.
Mr. St. Germain attended Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester and went on to graduate from Community College of Rhode Island in 1976 with a Degree in Fire Science. He went on to teach classes in Fire Science at CCRI.
He was a member of the IAFF Local 732, Woonsocket Firemen’s Relief Association, the National Fire Prevention Association, and the New England Association of Fire Fighter Instructors. He was also a life member of the Blackstone Valley Firemen’s League.
Mr. St. Germain was a longtime communicant of St. Agatha’s Parish and a member of the Woonsocket Sportsmen’s Club. Ralph enjoyed fishing and gardening, was a voracious reader, and loved taking in the outdoors on many long walks in the area.
In addition to his wife of 59 years Ralph is survived by two daughters Susan E. Akers, and her husband James, of Manville and Linda A. Cotnoir, and her husband Marc, of Woonsocket. He was the brother of Elaine E. Guyette, and her husband Richard, of FL. He is also survived by three grandchildren Gregory Cotnoir, Amanda Akers and Melanie Cotnoir and a great-granddaughter Cecilia Nobile.
His funeral will be Thursday at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Agatha’s Church, 34 Joffre Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manville. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm.
