Anna M. (Brennan) Carey, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following an extended illness. She was 88 years old.
Anna was born in Charlestown on April 16, 1925, a daughter of the late James Brennan and Bessie (Whynn) Brennan. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1944. Anna was a homemaker most of her adult where she dedicated herself to the care of her husband and the nurturing of her children. Anna enjoyed the quality time she was able to spend with each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association. She enjoyed baking, playing bingo and traveling to Foxwoods.
Anna is the beloved wife of the late Charles W. Carey. She is the devoted mother of Kathy Andrea and her husband Jim of Charlestown, Stephen Carey and his wife Jeanne of Needham, Charleen Carey of Hollis, New Hampshire, Philip Carey and his wife Karen of Charlestown and the late John Carey and Dennis Carey. She is the mother-in-law of Linda Carey and the late Kathy Carey. She is the loving Nana to Dennis Michael, Kristin, Heather, Jamie, Laura, Jeffrey, Philip, Michael, Allison, Megan and her 15 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of the late Raymond Brennan and Bernie Brennan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Anna's Funeral on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
