James Francis “Jiggs” Connearney, age 91 of Somerset, passed away on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014 at the Sarah Brayton Nursing Care Center. He was the beloved husband of Anne E. (Bailey) Connearney to whom he would have been married to for 70 years in July. Born in Waltham, MA, he was the son of the late Patrick and Mary (Manning) Connearney. While attending St. Charles High School, Waltham, he was the captain of the football, basketball, and baseball teams for all 4 years. Prior to retiring in 1979, James worked 31 years as a Dispatcher for Shell Oil Co. He was a US Marine Corp veteran of World War II, having served in Iwo Jima, Japan, a longtime member of the Montaup Country Club, enjoyed wintering in Florida, and was very proud of his Irish Heritage. During his long time playing golf, Jim made two hole in ones.
In addition to his wife of Somerset, he is survived by his children: Martin Connearney of Brockton, MA, Lawrence Connearney of Louisville, KY, Brendan Connearney (wife Catherine) of Fall River, Anne Marie Oliveira of Somerset, Mary Beth Kleinberger of Fall River, and the late James P. Connearney; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Popsie” and many nieces & nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary Chaisson, Helen Samuelonis, Dorothy McNutt, Margaret Ranucci, John and Joseph Connearney.
His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1521 N. Main St., Fall River on MONDAY at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery, Fall River.
