Obituary

Ruby Bruce Singletary, 93, of Irwinville, Georgia, died Thursday, October 14, 2004 at her residence.

Funeral services will be 2 P.M., Sunday, October 17, 2004, at Bethel Baptist Church, Ocilla, Georgia, with Rev. Jack Thompson and Rev. Tracy Clements officiating. Interment will follow in Irwinville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Paulk Funeral Home, Fitzgerald from 7:00 until 9:00, Saturday evening.

Mrs. Singletary was born May 12, 1911, in Colquitt County, Georgia, to the late Emory and Leila Eldridge Bruce. She moved to the community in 1935 from Colquitt County. Mrs. Singletary worked in the Irwinville School lunchroom until the consolidation of Irwin County schools in 1965. She then became the manager of the Fitzgerald Elementary School lunchroom, working there until she was in her mid seventies. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Ocilla and a member of the Irwinville Widows Club.

Mrs. Singletary is survived by her two sons: Carroll Singletary, Irwinville, and W.L. “Buddy” Singletary, Kennesaw; five daughters: Betty Jo S. Reeves, Vidalia, Doris S. O’Connor, Albany, Faye S. Sumner, Tifton, Pat S. Stringer and Ginger S. Stringer, both of Irwinville; seventeen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren; five sisters: Mae Pierce, Cairo, Ann Howard and Inez Dixon, both of Lakeland, Fl, Doris Sterling and Dorothy Thornhill, both of Auburndale, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jeff Lee Singletary.
