Obituary

DARTMOUTH -- Marion M. Chace, 88, of Dartmouth died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at home after a period of declining health.

Born in Pawtucket, R.I. she was the daughter of the late Albert M. and Cora L. (Heath) Chace. She lived in this community most of her life.

She formerly attended the First Unitarian Church in New Bedford.

She received bachelor's and master's degrees from Boston University.

Professor Chace was a psychiatric nurse for 35 years and taught at Southeastern Massachusetts University, now UMass Dartmouth; she became chairwoman of the Department of Nursing. Her earlier experience included supervision at Massachusetts General Hospital, assisting in the opening of psychiatric hospitals in Indiana and Pennsylvania, and a faculty position in baccalaureate nursing education at Temple University in Philadelphia. In 1981, she received the Leo M. Sullivan Teacher of the Year Award at SMU, and was honored at a faculty federation banquet. She was praised as a teacher whose performance was exemplary.

Survivors include two brothers, Robert Chace, and his wife, Aurora, of South Dartmouth, and Leonard Chace, and his wife, Priscilla, of Naples, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Chace of Hopkington. Private arrangements are by the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St.; with burial will be in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence, R.I.
