Obituary

Mary I. (Cardoza) Chevalier, 92, of New Bedford died January 19, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital.
She was the wife of the late Arthur E. Chevalier.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Vieira) Cardoza, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Mrs. Chevalier was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in New Bedford.
She was formerly employed by John I. Paulding for over 40 years until her retirement.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice (Chevalier) Perron and her husband Jack of Fairhaven; 2 brothers, Joseph Cardoza and his wife Caroline and Daniel Cardoza and his companion Marianne McCrindle; a son-in-law, Charles Smith of New Bedford;3 sisters, Dolores Leger and her husband Joseph Arthur Leger, Dorothy Gallant and Irene Chausse and her husband Donald; a sister-in-law, Margaret Cardoza; 4 grandchildren, Corinne Wade and her husband Brian of New York, Dana Smith and his wife Aylin of Fairhaven, Lynn Aviza and her husband Darryl of Acushnet and Jane Hubert and her husband Philip of Fairhaven; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Shirley R. (Chevalier) Smith and the sister of the late Rose Gonsalves, James Cardoza, Manuel Cardoza and Alice Cardoza.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Friday at 8:30 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, New Bedford at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours Thursday from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society 5 Manley St. West Bridgewater, MA 02379.
