Obituary

Sharon Frances Sylvester, 62, of Duxbury, passed away on January 16, 2014 after a three month battle with lung cancer. Sharon was born in Yonkers, New York on September 18, 1951 to Philip and Florence (Drysdale) Langford. She graduated from DePaul High School in Wayne, NJ in 1969 and received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts in 1973. She has been a Duxbury resident since 1982. For the past three years she was the Executive Director of the Pembroke Housing Authority, and prior to this she served as the Executive Director of the Norwell Housing Authority. Throughout her life she was an active volunteer in the community, including participation in the Duxbury PTA, the Duxbury 4th of July Committee, and the Opening of the Bay celebration for the Duxbury Maritime School. In addition, she was involved with Friends of Cranberry Hospice serving as treasurer for several years and as a volunteer with the Festival of Trees for many years. Since the late 1990s she has raised funds for cancer research through her participation in the annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. She loved the beach and spending time with family and friends.
Devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, Sharon is survived by her husband Richard of 38 years, her children Kimberly Tobia and her husband Eric of Cohasset; Randel, of Majuro, Marshall Islands; Dainya, of South Boston; and one granddaughter, Devon Tobia. In addition, she leaves her sister, Darcy Williams and her husband Joseph of Elkton, MD; her brother Bruce Langford and his wife Ariana of Oxford, PA; as well as eight nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be at the MacDonald Funeral Home 1755 Ocean St., rte. 139 Marshfield from 4 - 8 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2014.
A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated on Saturday, January 25 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church 1981 Ocean St, rte. 139 Marshfield. The Rev. Joan M. Testin, Rector of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Cumberland, RI will officiate.
Interment will be private.
