Obituary

Frederick E. Bergstrom, Sr., 87, of Worcester, died Thursday, January 16th in St. Vincent Hospital. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Frances E. (Roche) Bergstrom; two sons, Frederick E. Bergstrom, Jr. and his wife Maureen of Westborough and James S. Bergstrom and his wife Maureen of Upton; two daughters, Ann E. Murphy and her husband, T. Michael of Ashburnham and Catherine L. Fogarty of Rutland; thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and James Bergstrom, and two sisters, Virginia and Margaret Bergstrom.

He was born in Worcester, the son of Edward and Margaret (Walsh) Bergstrom and graduated from Worcester Junior College. In his younger years, Mr. Bergstrom was an iron worker at the former U.S. Steel Company, and later worked as a salesman for New England Grocer, retiring in 1991. Mr. Bergstrom was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, having served as a lector, choir member, and volunteer for many years.

The funeral is Tuesday, January 21st from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 10:00 A.M. in Sacred Heart-St. Catherine of Sweden Church, 600 Cambridge Street. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, January 20th, from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. in the funeral home.
