Domingo R. Marquez, 87, of Derry, NH passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center, Derry. He was born on June 24, 1926 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, a son of the late Alejandro and Eladia (Rodriguez) Marquez. Mr. Marquez served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was an animal lover and had a real knack for interacting with all animals from horses to even the smallest animals such as birds, squirrels, and chipmunks. He passed this love of animals on to his family. Mr. Marquez loved race horses and off track betting. In his older years, he enjoyed tinkering and will be remembered for the way he would “MacGyver” things.
He is survived by his 6 children, Judy Barreto of NH, Robert Marquez of NY, Nancy Marquez of FL, Diana Preston of NH, Elizabeth Marquez and Dorothy Marquez, both of NY, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, two sisters, Fela and Amada, one brother, Abraham, as well as many nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. Following cremation, memorial services will be held at a later date by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Derry Humane Society, PO Box 142, East Derry, NH 03041.
