Abington – John W. “Jack” Collick, Sr. 81, a longtime resident of Abington, died Sunday January 12. He was the beloved husband of the late Eleanor (Hines) Collick.
Born in Somerville and raised in Dorchester he was the son of the late John and Florence (Englehart) Collick and a graduate of Dorchester High.
Jack had been a proud veteran of the Korean War having served in the US Marines from 1952-1954 and the Army National Guard from 1949-1952.
Prior to his retirement he had worked many years as a machinist for the Boston Gear Works Company of Quincy.
Jack had moved to Abington in 1967 where he along with his wife Eleanor had raised their 6 children. He was a longtime and active communicant of St. Bridget Church where he had served as a Eucharistic Minister. He had also dedicated many hours volunteering at “My Brother’s Keeper”.
He loved to dance but his greatest joy was spending time with his large family.
He is survived by his loving children Jean Sousa and her husband Mike of NH, John Collick Jr. and his wife Lisa of VA, Sandra Conway and her husband Sean of Abington, Thomas Collick and his wife Michele of Abington, Patricia Spear and her husband Peter of VA, and Dennis Collick of Abington and his sister Barbara Scattergold of IL. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild as well as many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Marguerite Morrell.
His funeral service will be held Friday January 17 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9 AM in St. Bridget Church, Abington. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Rockland. Visiting hours will be held Thursday January 16 from 4-7 PM.
