Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Delcia M. (Arpin) St. Jacques, 94,of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, January 9, 2014. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Sainte Victoire, Province of Quebec, Canada on July 29, 1919, a beloved daughter of the late Clement and Rose Anna (Daunais) Arpin. She was raised and educated in Sainte Victoire, Province of Quebec, Canada and came to Springfield in 1937, after she married her husband, Elphege. They lived in the North End section of the city, before moving to the Hungry Hill section of Springfield in 1963. She was employed as an inspector for many years at the former F.W. Sickles Corp. in Chicopee and, following her retirement, later worked as a nurse’s aide at Kendall Commons in Springfield. She was a communicant of the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield where she was a member of Les Dames de Sainte Anne. She later became a communicant of the former Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield. Above all, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who showered her family with love and affection. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Elphege St. Jacques who was Called Home on September 14, 1980. They were married on May 29, 1937 in Sainte Victoire and were blessed with over 43 years of happiness together. She leaves her two devoted children, Lorraine M. Groleau, with whom she lived in Springfield, and Raymond E. St. Jacques and his wife, Darleen, of Holyoke; her four cherished grandsons, Dennis Groleau, (Carol), of Chester, MA, David Groleau of Springfield, Jayson St. Jacques and his wife, Celeste, of Southwick, and Shaun St. Jacques and his partner, Lilly Eng, of Feeding Hills; her five cherished great grandchildren, Alexander, Nicole, Annette, Michelle and Melena; and her many dear nephews and nieces here and in Canada. Besides her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by her three dear brothers, Charlie, Bernard and Lucien; and her three dear sisters, Alice, Cecile and Laura. Funeral Services and a Springtime Service of Committal at Saint Michael Cemetery in Springfield will be private at the convenience of the family.
