John DeMello, Jr., 73, of Dartmouth died October 10, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Lucille (Almeida) DeMello.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late John and Lena (Gianaria) DeMello, he lived in Dartmouth most of his life.
Mr. DeMello was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in South Dartmouth.
He was formerly employed as a welder by Quincy Shipyard and Polaroid for many years until his retirement.
Mr. DeMello served in the U.S. Army during World War II and Korea and was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, the Korean Unit Presidential Citation, the National Defense Service medal, the United Nations medal, the United Nations Service medal and the Good Conduct medal.
He enjoyed doing handy work for his family.
Survivors include his wife; a son, David DeMello, and his wife Stacey, of Dartmouth; a daughter, Luann Roseman of Dartmouth; a sister, Alice Santos, and her husband Armando, of Dartmouth; 2 grandchildren, Tyler DeMello and Alyssa Roseman; and several nieces and nephews.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 16th at 11 AM in St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth.
