Virginia A. (Sweetser) Bennett, 70, passed away surrounded by her loving family at UMass Memorial Medical Center, University Campus, on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, after a short illness.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of Dorothy B. (Leonard) and Melvin Sweetser. Ginny was a graduate of Commerce High, Worcester. She was a technician for the Evergreen Solar Co., and most recently worked at Burroughs YMCA, Westborough. She had a strong work ethic and was really involved in all the lives she touched. Always busy, Virginia loved crafting and traveling. She enjoyed everything to its fullest and will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, and selfless giving to others.
Virginia is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, John A. Bennett; three children, Tammy L. Gaffney and her husband Matthew of Worcester, Heidi A. Clermont and her husband Mark of Shrewsbury, and John T. Bennett and his wife Dee Dee of Roslindale; five grandchildren, Amelia, Abby, Ben, Claudia, and Audrey; two sisters, Janet M. Falvey of Lancaster and Michelle Y. Sweetser of Worcester; a niece; a nephew; and two grandnephews.
Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Friday, Jan. 10, from 4-6 pm. The service will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, from the funeral home with a 10:00am Mass at Our Lady of the Angels, 1222 Main Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Worcester Animal Rescue League, 139 Holden Street, Worcester MA 01606.
