Obituary

William “Bill” Bennett, 87 yrs old, passed away at the Morrison Nursing Home in Whitefield, NH on Sunday, January 5th, 2014. He was born in Berlin, NH on April 17th, 1926. Bill was one of 10 children born to Ernest and Clara “Fowler” Bennett.
He attended Berlin Schools and at the age of 17 enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served his country in the South Pacific aboard the USS Astoria CL90 as a mach 51 gun sight operator until his honorable discharge in 1946.
Bill was employed by the City of Berlin, Public Works Department, until his retirement in 1989. Unable to remain idle he went to work at Shaw’s Supermarket in Gorham, NH until they closed.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lucille “Treamer” Bennett; his son Thomas Bennett; his daughter Clarice “Cleo” Bennett Dube and husband Richard; two grandsons; Gregory Dube and wife Jessica of Whitefield, NH and Jeffrey Dube and wife Catherine of Berlin, NH; two great grandchildren, Delaney Dube and Albert Dube of Whitefield, NH. He had 6 sisters Elizabeth Landry of Epsom, NH, Claire MacArthur of Brevard, NC, Barbara Ungaro of Sarasota, FL, Constance “Joan” Gingras and husband Leo of Derry, NH, Sheila McGuire and husband Joe of Worcester, MA, and Ernestine Bruns of Daytona Beach, FL, and several nieces and nephews.
His parents Ernest and Clara “Fowler” Bennett, 2 brothers Ernie Bennett of Sarasota, FL, and Leslie Bennett of Warwick, RI, and sister Enid “Blanche” Grimard of Rochester, NY predeceased him.
At Bill’s request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring. Donations in his name can be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517 or to the Activities Fund at the Morrison Nursing Home, 6 Terrace St., Whitefield, NH 03598, or to the Charity of one’s choice. The Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
