Obituary

Austin J. “Austy” Moran, 88, of Worcester died Monday, January 6th in the St. Francis Home after a valiant battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was predeceased by his first wife, Lorraine T. (Wood) Moran who died in 1981. He leaves two sons, Bruce F. Moran and his wife, Melanie A. of Charlton and A. Gary Moran of Oxford; two daughters, Linda M. Scanlon and her husband, James C. of Worcester; Lorraine A. Scola and her husband, Ralph J. of Oxford; 7 grandchildren, Geoffrey, Kimberley, Timothy, Tara, Patrick, Briana and Daniel; 4 great grandchildren, Garrett, Spencer, Austin and Jack; his wife of 30 years, Lucy (Adua) Moran and her children; John O’Connor of Sutton, Nancy Candela of Oxford and Kelly Nevalsky of Sutton; her 7 grandchildren and her 5 great grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers, Arthur Moran and his wife, Pauline of Worcester and Francis Moran of Butte, MT; a brother in law, Richard Adua and his wife, Beverly and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Peter Moran.
He was born in Worcester the son of Peter and Helen (Wallace) Moran. Austin was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II on the USS Savannah and the USS Wisconsin. He worked for the Worcester Public Schools for 40 years as a custodian retiring in 1990. He was a member of the American Legion Post 201, the Frohsinn Club and a lifetime member of St. Stephen Church. After retiring, Austy enjoyed making furniture as a hobby and for the last 23 years he has met up with his coffee club friends at the Grafton Street McDonald’s.
His funeral is Thursday, January 9th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 9:30 A.M. in St. Stephen Church, 357 Grafton Street. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, January 8th from 5:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 Eighteenth Street, NW Washington, DC 20006.
