Justa G. (Fernandes) Pires, 88, of New Bedford died October 9, 2004 at New Bedford Health Care Center after a long illness.
She was the wife of the late Jose L. Pires.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, daughter of the late Jose and Eugenia (Duarte) Fernandes, she lived in Brava before moving to New Bedford in 1957.
Mrs. Pires was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
She enjoyed being with her family and gardening.
Survivors include 3 sons, David Pires, Antonio Pires and Daniel Pires, and his wife Becky, all of New Bedford; her loving niece and caregiver, Cindy Pires of New Bedford 5 daughters, Maria Lessa, and her husband José, Eugenia Graca, and her husband John, Alcinda Gonzales, and her husband Ayres, and Elizabeth Ferreira, and her husband Tony, all of New Bedford and Julia Benjamin of Nassau, Bahamas; a brother David Fernandes and his wife Gloria, of New Bedford; a sister, Regina Fernandes of New Bedford; a step-daughter, Victoria Pires, and her husband Jack, of Sacramento, CA; 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was the sister of the late Antonio Fernandes, Daniel Fernandes, and Luiza Fernandes.

Interment St. John's Cemetery.
