DAVENPORT, FL - Mrs. Margaret E. (Sweeney)(Poverchuk) Shallow, age 90, died peacefully on the evening of New Years Day, January 1, at her home in the care of Hospice, with her beloved husband, Austin R. Shallow, at her bedside.
She was born in Somerville, December 20, 1923, one of two daughters of the late Patrick and Mary (Hayes) Sweeney. She married John Poverchuk, and moved to Tewksbury to raise her family. Years after the death of Mr. Poverchuk, she remarried Austin Shallow, and retired to New Hampshire, and eventually, Davenport, Florida.
She worked as a secretary at the Assumption Life Insurance, and in her Florida years worked as a Cast Member and Attraction Hostess at Disney Hollywood Studio and Walt Disney World.
Besides her husband, she leaves eight children, Margaret Poverchuk of Lowell, MA, Denise Gizzi and her husband Robert of Billerica, MA, Diane D’Elia and her husband Thomas of Burke, VA, Linda Poverchuk of Massachusetts, John Poverchuk and his wife Sue of Medford, MA, Andrew Poverchuk of Clermont, FL, Scott Poverchuk of Danville, NH, Robert Shallow of Salem, NH and FL; fifteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Joseph Poverchuk; and her sister. Betty Dowd, formerly of Milton, MA.
A Memorial Prayer Service was held on Sunday, April 13, in the Funeral Home.
