Frank John Matthews, 89, of Anderson died at Miller's Merry Manor in Chesterfield, after an extended illness.
He was born September 6, 1924 in Anderson to Frederick Lewis and Myrtle May (Vanderhoof) Matthews.
He graduated from Anderson High School.
He served in the U.S. Army as a Private in Company F 317th Infantry 80th Division during WW II.
He was a truck driver delivering for Miller Huggins 36 years before retiring in June of 2011.
He was past president of Eagles Aerie #174; Life member of V.F.W. and past member of the Anderson Auxiliary Police.
Survivors his wife Doris (Gregory) Matthews of Anderson whom he married October 13, 1954; daughter, Karen (Roger) Thompson; three grandchildren, Jason (Heather) Thompson; Sara Thompson and Jamie (Duane) Simer; five great grandchildren: Emma, Elizabeth, Liam Simer Hunter and Chase Thompson, sister, Margie Weston and several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, Fred & Dessie Matthews; sister & brother-in-law Betty & Grover Eads; niece, Evelyn Perkins and a brother-in-law, Lucien Weston.
A graveside service will be at 12:30 P.M. on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at East Maplewood Cemetery with V.F.W. Honor Guard doing Military Rites. Visitation will be from 11 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service.
