Funeral Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Bridgewater Thursday at 9 am. Burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 11:15 am. Visiting Hours in the J. Mr. Demers died Sunday at the New England Sinai Hospital in StoughtonAfter a period of failing health. Born in Brockton , son of the late Delose and Elizabeth (Reed) Demers. Former resident of Hemlock Dr. in Bridgewater. Resident of Bridgewater for over 40 years, previously lived in Brockton. Graduate of Brockton High School; He took Continuing Education courses at Bridgewater State College. During WW II he served in the US Army.
His career began with W.L. Douglas Shoe Co. of Brockton prior to 25 years of employment with S.S. Kresge Co., (now K-Mart). During 1967 took residence in Bridgewater and began an extended career with Bridgewater-Raynham Regional District High School until his retirement in 1989 when he vacated his position as Supervisor of the Work/Study a Program he helped Inaugurate within this school district.
Former member of Board of Registrars, Town of Bridgewater; Bridgewater representative for Old Colony Planning commission; served on the Bridgewater Council on Aging; Member Golden Agers of Bridgwater; Trustee for Bridgewater Public Library for 25 years.
He was also a volunteer for the Board of Advisors Catholic Charities; Old Colony area for over 30 years; Probation Volunteer Officer, Brockton District Court; VA Hospital Volunteer, Brockton; AARP Member: Former Trustee Catholic Charities, Archdiocesan Board, Boston; and most recently, Old Colony Hospice Program Volunteer. Long time communicant of St.Thomas Aquinas Church.
Survived by 2 daughters, Mary C. Silvia of Swansea and Anne L. Tasillo of Abington2 granddaughters Jennifer Burke and Rebecca Ponte 2 grandsons Charles and David Ferreira1 Brother Alvin Demers of Oldsmar, FL 4 Great Grandchildren Best Friend Arthur Gorham of Norfolk, MA
