Obituary

Mona Faye Simmons, 77, of Coffee County, Georgia, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at Shady Acres in Douglas, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Thursday, January 2, 2014, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Huey Nichols and Elder Edward McIntyre officiating. Interment will follow in the Irwinville Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, January 1, 2014, from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Simmons was born March 16, 1936, in Ocilla, to the late Grady Paul and Mary Mildred Godwin Nichols. She graduated from Irwin County High School and received vocational training in business. She lived in Irwin County most of her life and later resided in several cities, including: Darien, Metter, Douglas and Lancaster, South Carolina. Mrs. Simmons was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by daughters: Connie & Allen McCarty of Douglas, and Judith & James Adams of Fitzgerald; a son: Michael Simmons of Wrightsville; five grandchildren: James & Kristine Ginn of Canada, Lonnie & Talinda Adams of Valdosta, Sara Adams of Fitzgerald, Matthew McCarty of Douglas and Wayne McCarty of Douglas; six great grandchildren; a brother: Rev. Huey and Pat Nichols of Douglas and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: James E. Simmons; a daughter: Cynthia Simmons and two sisters: Carmen Jane Vickers and Mary Paula Paulk.
