Obituary

Antonio J. Costa, age 87, passed away on Dec. 29, 2013 at Wingate of South Hadley Nursing Home. He was born on Feb. 8, 1926 in Ludlow, MA. He was a son of the late Luiz and Maria (Santos) Costa. Antonio had worked as a printer for New England Photomount for 35 years and also at University Products for 20 years before he retired. He was a communicant of Mary Mother of Hope Church. He attended Clarke School for the Deaf in Northampton and Springfield Trade School. He was a member of the Holyoke Deaf Club and also the International Catholic Deaf Association. He leaves his loving wife of 64 years, Jeannette (Fleming) Costa of Chicopee; 3 sons, Francis Costa of Hampton, NH, Thomas Costa and his wife Amy of Feeding Hills, MA and Glen Costa and his wife Teresa of Chicopee; 1 daughter Nancy Houghton and her husband Steven of Springfield; 1 brother Albert Costa and his wife Maryann of Chicopee; 1 sister Sylvia Maher of Albany, NY; 4 grandchildren, Kristoffer Costa, Nathan Costa, Ashlee Sawyer and Jessica Costa and 5 great grandchildren. He also leaves many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Toni. Antonio is predeceased by 2 brothers Armando “Doc” and Emedio “Nick” Costa. Calling hours will be held on Wed. Jan. 1, 2014 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A funeral service will be held on Thurs. Jan. 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Mary Mother of Hope Church at 11:00 a.m. followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery.
